Tall Tales – Sportswear Rio

So we were shooting the Nike Global Sportswear campaign in Rio de Janeiro, and we’d cast this amazing footballer from Favela Vidigal. We needed a good vista of Rio – and so we asked him if he could help us get to the top of the Favela. He made a few calls, and next thing you know we were in the back of a tiny sedan – having gotten an invitation from the Lords of Vidigal – zooming up to the top of the Favela. The hair folks and some of our production folks refused to go.

We get to the top after about 20 minutes of break-neck zig-zagging up a mountainous road. We get out and there’s a lookout “patio” overlooking this amazing view of Rio. Whispers from our handlers let us know that the dudes that run the favela are watching us.

Our photographer starts snapping away some flicks and we suddenly realize that everyone is strapped. Handguns in everyone’s shorts. Gulp. We look back and on every wall is a line of high powered rifles lined up. Double gulp. Here is a surreptitious snap I snuck out. Anyway, we got the shot – the moral of the story being – sometimes we risk more than the norm for some of our clients.

EMEHT created imagery, video content and copy for the Nike LeBron James Greater China Tour recently. The tour started in Taipei, then proceeded to Chengdu, Xi’an with a cacophonous celebration of sport, the Nike Festival of Sport in Shanghai.

LeBron James dunks for the people of Xi’an, China.

James with some fans that had been waiting for hours. They went home happy.
